Townlands Transcribed in Residents and Occupiers on the Estate of The Earl Fitzwilliam, 1827 & 1839 This is not a complete transcription or account of all individuals recorded in the manuscript. Head tenants are in bold type, listed above their sub-tenants.Where head tenants have no age next to their name, they probably lived somewhere else. Land area was recorded in Irish Acres. These are the same units used in the Tithe Applotment Books.2 To compare the land holdings from the Fitzwilliam Estate records to Griffith’s Valuation,3 which uses Statute Acres, it is necessary to convert the units.4
1 Irish Acre = 7840 yards2 = 4 Roods (Irish) = 1.62 Statute Acres
1 Rood (Irish) = 1960 yards2 = 40 Perches (Irish)
1 Perch (Irish) = 49 yards2
1 Statute Acre = 4840 yards2 = 4 Roods (Statute) = 0.617 Irish Acres
1 Rood (Statute) = 1210 yards2 = 40 Perches (Statute)
1 Perch (Statute) = 30.25 yards2
Information recorded for each tenant includes:
