“Kent’s Grist,” The (Auburn NY) Daily Bulletin, 13 Feb 1899, p. 4, col. 4; Recorder Kent had a varied assortment of offenders to dispose of when he called court to order this morning. Robert and Edward Stiles were charged with fighting in North street Saturday morning. Robert pleaded guilty and was given a suspended sentence, but Edward pleaded not guilty, and will be tried this afternoon. Edward Stiles formerly boarded with Robert and his wife but trouble grew out of the boarder and husband and wife left each other. Robert going to the Peacock house to live, so Mrs. Stiles being provided, so Robert claimed, with a home by his brother. About two weeks ago complaint was made to the recorder that the Stiles children were alone in a house in Caitlin street and that the neighbors had cared for them. The recorder had Stiles before him and the latter provided for his offspring, passing two in the orphan asylum and finding a boarding place for the baby. Saturday night Stiles, his wife and his brother Edward met at the corner of North and Genesee streets. An argument started and when Officer Parker appeared the two brothers were hammering each other in fierce style. He arrested them and they were arraigned this morning.
