STYLES IS ARRESTED; COMPANION ESCAPES
Prisoner Caught in a North Salina Street Alley—Another Nabbed Soon After, but is Freed.
Lawerence Styles, 19 years old, of Auburn, with a bunch of keys and a pair of pliers in his pocket, was arrested at 7 o’clock last evening in a North Salina street alley, where many burglaries have been committed within the past few days. Styles was with another young man, who escaped. He was arrested by Patrolman Wickens and Austin.
The two officers were near an alley which runs north from West Willow street at the rear of the stores on the east side of North Salina street in the second block. They watched the youth. When he passed the rear of a store which was lighted, they said he stopped as if to avoid the light. The officers then caught him and took him to Police Headquarters. Besides the pliers and keys he had a handful of pennies and two watches.
Two Josephine street boys went into the same alley few minutes after Styles was arrested, and one of them was caught by Patrolman Austin. He explained his presence in the alley and was paroled.
The young men, who said they were Otto Engulfing of New York and Clarence Flack of Albany, were picked up at the New York Central station by Patrolmen Barrack and O’Connell. They are held for investigation.
