BOY BANDIT HOLDS UP CAFE AND HOTEL
Forces Diners to Throw Watches on Floor; Drives Drinkers to the Street after Making Motorist Unwilling Chauffeur.
Approaching Ralph Langley as he quietly sat in an automobile in front of 87 East jefferson avenue Tuesday afternoon, William Styles, giving his age as 16 and his home as Auburn, N.Y., pushed the barrel of a loaded revolver against Langley’s stomach. The he told him to drive the car away as fast as he could.
Later William Strolled into a saloon at Sixth and Abbott streets and ordered the occupants to hold up their hands and walk out on the sidewalk, while he gleefully followed them, threatening to shoot the first one who remonstrated.
Continuing his wild career, he reached the cafeteria of a hotel at Third street and Jefferson avenue, where he again drew his six-shooter and compelled diners to throw their watches on the floor. He thrust his weapon under the nose of the manager, ordering him to sit down and be quiet.
Then about half a dozen men pounced on William’s back. He dropped his revolver, but pulling along knife, he fought until he was subdued. He was handed over to a private detective.
At police headquarters William evinced great regret that he had not stabbed or killed all those who were concerned in his capture.
