Edward L. Hayes Edward L. Hayes, husband of Josephine Murray Hayes of 35 Ross Street, died Wednesday January 3 1979. at Auburn Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for a day. Mr. Hayes was born in Auburn, the son of the late Maurice and Katherine Stiles Hayes and had always resided here. He was a retired Correction Officer having served at the Auburn Facility from 1930 to his retirement in 1970. Prior to his association with the Penal System, he had served as a Callman with the Auburn Fire Department for 3 years. He was a communicant of St. Alphonsus Church, a member of the Retired Prison Guards Assoc, The CSEA and Local 1447 of the Federation of State County & Municipal Employees. He was an active member of The Finger Lakes Racing Pigeon Assoc, and had served in various offices of that Association over many years. Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Jean) Staehr and Mrs. George (Josephine) House, both of Auburn. Eight grand-children and several nieces and nephews. Another grandchild, Miss Janet E. House, pre-deceased her grandfather in 1974. Family prayer services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Farrell Funeral Home, 84 South St. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Alphonsus Church at 9:30. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at 84 South St. from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
