“He Cut His Wrist,” The Auburn NY Daily Bulletin, 5 Aug 1890;
The Stiles family of 57 Holley street got into another jangle yesterday afternoon which almost resulted fatally to one of the parties concerned. William Stiles, a chip off the old block, went home yesterday afternoon not altogether sober and as is natural he wanted to have a cock fight. His mother objected but William was determined. His mother continued her opposition and provoked him so that he started out to lick her, but his other parent objected and held his erring son until his better half made her escape. The younger Stiles made a search of the house to find his mother and finally saw her through a glass door and made a break to catch hold of her. In doing so he ran his fist through a pane of glass, cutting it badly at the wrist and severing an artery. He bled profusely and it was with great difficulty that Dr. Voorhees succeeded in stopping the flow of blood. The accident sobered the young man and hostilities ceased.
